In this inspiring devotional, written by Rev. Tim McConnell and published in the Citizen-Times, Christians are encouraged to start living spiritually awake.

Living Spiritually Awake Inspiring Devotional
Do you remember the childhood nightly prayer:
“Now I lay me down to sleep; I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take.”
Well I appreciate the insight in this devotional, because I always had a problem with this prayer. The prayer was embroidered on a baby blanket I had, but I never wanted to pray it.
Living Spiritually Awake
In this devotional you will listen in as a father and son share dialogue during the boy’s nightly bedtime prayer routine. The boy is embarrassed when he mixes up the words, but wisely, the father gives his response and also encourages his son:
“My deepest longing for you is that you may wake up before you die.” (read more here)
The author goes on to say…
“As we look at the father’s response, we may ask ourselves, “What did he mean by ‘waking before you die?” Is it possible that you and I can go through life “sleepwalking?”
After all, there is the visible, physical world in which we live our daily lives, and then there is the spiritual world, the “other” world to which Jesus says, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” …
“… maybe we could see and experience more of God’s blessings and glory, learn more about him as a person and realize how he wants us to be like him if we were more awake spiritually. Perhaps there is much about God we have missed while asleep.” (read more here)
He concludes with…
“…young King Solomon asked for wisdom to rule his kingdom and his daily life.
By using the wisdom that comes from God, we are able to see the necessity of staying awake spiritually in our daily journey. Wisdom will open our eyes to opportunities and possibilities, which God sets before us.
May our prayer be; “Lord, Wake me up before I die…” (read full devotion here)
